ALA Announces 2010 trips to Latvia
ALA is organizing two English-language trips to Latvia in the summer of 2010 - „Hello, Latvia/Sveika, dzimtene” for adults and families - and „Heritage Latvia” for young people from 13-15 years of age. Both trips will take place from July 1, 2010, through July 14, 2010. Participants of both tours can fly to Latvia with groups from either Chicago or an East Coast gateway, to be determined. Apply as soon as possible to assure your spot on the tour! Spaces reserved in the order applications and deposits are received.

The „Hello, Latvia/Sveika, dzimtene!” trip, in its eleventh year, will include well-known highlights of Latvia as well as some interesting first-time features. The English language tour provides insights into Latvia’s history, culture and society with an itinerary which includes the capital Riga and other major cities. This year Vidzeme will be featured. A highlight of the trip will be performances at the Youth Song and Dance Festival – more than 15,000 performers are expected.

The fee is $3,300 and includes airfare to Riga and return from either Chicago or Washington, DC. (Participants also may arrange their own transportation and meet the group in Riga, thereby reducing the participation fee to $2,100.) The fee includes all transfers, tour transportation, hotels, all breakfasts, many meals (those meals not covered will be during the group participants’ free time), tickets to museums and attractions, as well as the services of a full-time guide who accompanies the group during the entire trip. The group will have a maximum of 20 participants. (Download „Hello, Latvia!” application forms here.)

„Heritage Latvia” - an English-language trip for young people 13-15 years old of Latvian background who have an interest in seeing and learning about their grandparents’ homeland. The trip’s content and itinerary parallels ALA’s Latvian language tour – „Sveika, Latvija!” and includes getting acquanited with young people in Latvia, as well as seeing the country’s geographical, cultural and historical highlights. This year’s group will also have the opportunity to attend the Youth Song and Dance Festival – this will be a highlight!

The fee is $3,000 and includes airfare to Riga and return from either Chicago or Washington, DC. The minimal number of participants is 10 and the maximum 20. Participants may be given credit for attendance at local Latvian Heritage Schools, which could reduce the amount of the participation fee. (Download „Heritage Latvia” application forms here.)
