ALA’s Office of Public Affairs promotes the interests of Latvian Americans both in the United States and in Latvia.

It maintains contacts with the United States government and legislative offices, as well as with the Latvian diplomatic corps and government, keeping them informed about the Latvian American community’s position on various issues.

ALA is a member of the Joint Baltic American National Committee (JBANC), which unites ALA with Estonian and Lithuanian American organizations in projects of pan-Baltic concern. JBANC maintains contacts with the executive and legislative branches of the U.S. government as well as the U.S. press.

The Central and East European Coalition (CEEC) comprises 18 national membership organizations representing more than 22 million Americans who trace their heritage to that part of the world. The CEEC believes strongly that the long-term national security and economic interests of the United States demand an unwavering commitment to and sustained engagement with the Central and East European countries. ALA represents Latvian American interests in the CEEC.
