After consulting with authorities and trip coordinator colleagues in Latvia, we understand that the extent of pandemic-related travel restrictions that will be in place in August 2021 is still unclear; however, we are still hoping that ALA will be able to offer one “Sveika, Latvija!” trip in August 2021. The final decision will be made when the Latvian government authorities make their final decision regarding travel restrictions for the month of August. We will wait for this information until but no later than June 20, and will inform interested families as to ALA’s decision. We thank all interested families for their patience during this complicated and uncertain time!
Whether we can offer the “Sveika, Latvija!” trip this August will be mostly dependent on whether it will be possible for tourists with a U.S. passport to enter Latvia, and whether, when entering, one must observe a 10-day self-isolation period (even if vaccinated).
Since youth ages 12-15 now have access to Covid-19 vaccines, ALA will require that anyone participating in a potential “Sveika, Latvija!” trip this August is fully vaccinated prior to the trip.
For anyone who is interested in the “Sveika, Latvija!” trip this summer and has not yet signed up for updates, please do so on the ALA webpage: https://alausa.org/en/our-work/latvia-and-us/educational-trips/
