Board Resolutions

Resolution Nr. 1
The ALA Board decides to support two extraordinary, one-off projects that have passed the ALA Special Projects assessment process. ALA will offer $10,000 in financial support from the ALA Special Projects fund for an ALA event to open the PLEIF conference on July 4th in Riga. ALA will also send $6,300 to the Kursa camp from the Freibergs fund for necessary repairs.

The ALA Board emphasizes that these projects have one-time support to cover special expenses. The project application must meet the criteria of the ALA mission and goals, promoting Latvianness in American Latvian communities.

Resolution Nr. 2
The ALA Board decides to establish a Support and Aid to Latvia committee to assist the Support and Aid to Latvia office director in evaluating collaboration partners. The committee members will be Diāna Kārkliņa, Elisa Freimane, Nora Steele, Inese Stravelli, and Andrejs Kancs.

Resolution Nr. 3
The ALA Board decides to add Ronald McDonald House Charities Latvia as a collaborative partner.

Resolution Nr. 4
The ALA Board decides to adopt the proposed budget for a fall 2024 concert tour. The ALA Culture office will start planning a tour with Jānis Šipkēvics. The Shipsea group would include 4-6 people.

Resolution Nr. 5
The ALA board approves scholarships for summer high school students with the same amount as in 2022, which is $26,000 for Gaŗezers Summer High School and $6,000 for Kursa.

Resolution Nr. 6
The ALA board approves Andra Zommers as a member of the PBLA Education Council for 2023.

Resolution Nr. 7
The ALA board decides to install a new committee to review all ALA travel program guidelines and scholarships. The committee members will be Līga Ejupe, Anita Grīviņa, Elisa Freimane, Daina Bolšteina and Inese Stravelli.

Resolution Nr. 8
The ALA board accepts the 2022 year-end financial report.

Resolution Nr. 9
The ALA Board plans to hold the next board meetings:

May 17 and 18th in the evening via Zoom (asking all to read the reports in advance), August 25 – 27th at the Catskills Camp (along with the Black Bear fundraising event), October 15th after the 72nd ALA Congress,
and tentatively December 1-3 in Rockville.

Resolution Nr. 10
The ALA board decides to consult with an insurance broker to ensure that our technology is safe from cyber threats and that we have the proper data protection.

Resolution Nr. 11
To be mindful of the budget, the ALA board decides to evaluate the necessity of all printed documents and communication materials.

Resolution Nr. 12
As the war in Ukraine continues, the ALA board decides to persistently disseminate information about Ukrainian support and donation opportunities to Ukraine through the charity Ziedot.lv website (www.ziedot.lv).
