Dear friends,
Please join us on Sunday, December 4, 2022, 12:00 PM, for the Grand Reopening of The Latvian Museum, located at 400 Hurley Avenue, Rockville, MD.
The Latvian Museum, under the auspices of the American Latvian Association, has been newly renovated to offer a fresh interpretive approach. The renewed museum speaks to all audiences, especially young people, about the resilient Latvian people who finally earned their independence after centuries of subjugation by foreign powers.
The Latvian experience of the late 20th century has strong parallels with the struggle now going on in Ukraine. The new exhibit addresses the challenges of the past, the courage of a people determined to be free – and the unyielding, continuing need for vigilance in the face of ongoing threats to hard-won freedom.
The exhibit includes several video programs that portray life in Riga in the 1700s; the resistance to occupation in Latvia and abroad; the events of the Singing Revolution and the Baltic Way that helped lead Latvia to freedom; and Latvia’s new international role as a democracy, NATO member, and U.S. ally. The videos were narrated by the noted Latvian-American actress Laila Robins.
Come, see, and experience for yourself the centuries-long struggles and triumphs of the Latvian people!
Enclosed please find the program for the Grand Reopening celebration. We look forward to seeing you on December 4th.
