Angel Heart Society Success Stories

KRISTERS

ALA has started a partnership with the Angel Heart Society, whose mission is to financially support motivated, talented, hardworking children and young adults in low-income families in rural areas of Latvia.

“The Angels Heart Society” first met Krister Kalniņš last summer in Latvia, with the project “Travel Your Homeland”.

Kristers is a responsible, talented and athletic young man who lives in a family of three children, all being raised by their mother, Danuta. Kristers has excelled at basketball, even as a youth. In order to further develop his talent, a lot of hard work is needed.

One and a half years ago, Kristers wrote in his application for support from the society: “I trained on the Bauska Sports School team. We participated in competitions and won many medals. To improve my skills, I train in track and field, swim, and during the summer I participate in sports camps. I would be very happy if I could participate in a basketball camp led by Kristaps Porziņģis. I would also very much like to go to America someday and see how kids there train in basketball. I dream of going to an NBA game in person. When I grow up, I want to become an NBA basketball player. I would thankful if you could help fulfill one of my dreams.” Today, with great pride and satisfaction, we share news of Kristers. With the support of both the society and Gintas Osis, who hosted Kristers in the United States for two weeks, Kristers participated in a summer camp in Latvia and in the United States, and his dream of seeing an NBA game in person came true. In addition, he not only saw local basketball players train, but also played with the Jordan Kappen’s Milwaukee Bucks Youth Basketball team. Kristers and his mother sincerely thank all of the supporters who have been involved in fulfilling the boy’s dreams so far.

This week we received great news from Krister’s mother that he has been admitted to the elite U14 Latvian basketball team. This is the highest achievement for a young athlete in Latvia.

In order to continue his training, Kristers needs financial support for camps, travel expenses and sports equipment. The minimum amount for such expenses is about 500 euros. http://engelasirds.lv/
