On September 18–20, the American Latvian Association’s 75th Anniversary Congress will take place in the Washington, DC area. We invite Latvians from Washington, DC and the surrounding area to join us for this special weekend!
The ALA Congress is more than a meeting of delegates. It’s an opportunity to reconnect with friends, learn more about ALA and current issues in the American Latvian community, take part in conversations, and celebrate ALA’s 75th anniversary together.
Friday, September 18 – Odyssey Cruise
We’ll kick off the Congress celebrations with a special evening on the Potomac River!
Join us aboard the Odyssey for a dinner cruise, with beautiful evening views of Washington, dinner, and fellow Latvians. Our special guest will be President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, who will celebrate ALA’s 75th anniversary with us.
It will be a special evening bringing together Latvians from across the United States—and we would especially love to see Latvians from the Washington area there!
The cruise is a ticketed event; in celebration of ALA’s anniversary, ALA members receive a $100 subsidy toward the ticket price. The registration deadline for the cruise is August 27, but space is limited, and the event may sell out well before the deadline. Only 10 spots remain for the cruise!

Saturday, September 19 – Conversations, Meetings & Celebration
Attendance at Saturday’s daytime sessions and discussions is free. If you would like to join us for lunch, advance registration and payment are required.
Saturday Evening – Gala Dinner & Ball
We’ll close out the day with the ALA 75th Anniversary Congress Gala Dinner & Ball—a special evening celebrating this milestone anniversary with a festive program, special guests, dancing, and time together.
Our special guest will be Latvia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Baiba Braže.
Following the gala dinner, Pēdējais Vilciens will provide the music for the ball.
The gala dinner and ball are ticketed events. It is also possible to purchase admission to the ball without dinner.
