This year’s ALA Congress will take place October 9 – 12 in Minneapolis!

The congress program includes discussions on the 500th anniversary of the Latvian book; the advantages, responsibilities, and priorities of Latvian citizenship and recent diaspora laws; the significance and creation of the Latvian Museum’s traveling exhibition; the importance and challenges of journalism in the modern era; as well as current priorities for Latvian community centers in the U.S.. Among the special guests will be Dagnija Baltiņa (Director of the National Library of Latvia), Vita Kalniņa (European Latvian Association), and others to be announced soon.
On Friday evening, the cultural program will be enriched by a concert by “Shipsea”. “Shipsea” is a solo project created by Jānis Šipkēvics in 2013. The concert will feature Jānis himself, together with musicians Miķelis Putniņš, Kārlis Josts, and Una Daniela.
At the Saturday evening ball, “Lini and Friends” will play polkas and waltzes, ziņģes, foxtrots, and there will be at least one tango! Beloved contemporary Latvian pop songs and traditional folk dances will also be featured.
