Board Resolutions

Resolution No. 1
The ALA Board resolves, through PBLA, to purchase the one hundred tickets offered to ALA (at 10 lats each) for the Song Festival closing concert. The Board will vote on the distribution of the tickets once the logistics in Latvia become clear. The money (about $2,000) will be paid out as the 2013 allocation from ALA’s Cultural Foundation, and the disbursement will be arranged by the head of the ALA Cultural Foundation. If the tickets are refunded, the money will be deposited back into the Cultural Foundation account.

Resolution No. 2
The ALA Board resolves to support the U.S. Latvian choirs and dance groups participating in the 25th Latvian Song Festival and the 15th Dance Festival in Latvia in 2013. The total amount of support will be $5,000. The proportions of support for the applicants will be determined by a Board committee consisting of the Chair and the heads of the Education and Information sectors. Recipients of the support must be ALA members.

Resolution No. 3
In connection with the preparation of ALA’s third history book, the ALA Board resolves to cover the participation and travel costs for the editor of the book, Anita Tērauda, for the 62nd ALA Congress. The Information budget will be supplemented by $3,000 for the book preparation expenses.

Resolution No. 4
The ALA Board resolves to confirm the current ALA Board member, head of the SAL office Ēriks Krūmiņš, as the SAL office rapporteur for the 2013/2014 working year, outside the composition of the Board.

Resolution No. 5
The ALA Board resolves to authorize Ēriks Krūmiņš to begin the necessary preliminary work to transfer the operations of the ALA Edgar Kleinbergs Scholarship Fund from ALA to the Vītols Scholarship Fund in Latvia.

Resolution No. 6
The ALA Board resolves to adopt a long-term financial investment plan, titled in English “Investment Policy Statement.” The plan is included as an appendix to the minutes of March 9–10.

Resolution No. 7
The ALA Board resolves to return to the “Cooperation with Latvia” sector, within the 2013 budget, the second and remaining portion ($75,762.00) of the $151,524.00 amount that was transferred in 2008 from the H. Linde testamentary bequest to the “Centenary Testamentary Bequest Fund.”

Resolution No. 8
The ALA Board resolves, in connection with the income from the auction of Māra Dole’s painting dedicated to ALA, to transfer 10% of the amount obtained (?) to the ALA Cultural Fund budget.

Resolution No. 9
The ALA Board resolves to meet in an informal Board session on Thursday at 8:00 PM, before the opening of the 62nd ALA Congress, and to hold a brief Board meeting together with the Board members elected at the Congress on Sunday at 5:00 PM, after the Congress.

Resolution No. 10
The ALA Board resolves to purchase $350,000 Vanguard Investments funds in the ALA Main Account. The purchase of funds should occur according to the following distribution: 10% Prime Money Market, 30% Total Bond Index, 30% Intermediate Term Investment Grade Bond, 15% Dividend Appreciation Index, 10% Growth Index, 5% Extended Market Index.

Resolution No. 11
The ALA Board resolves to award Guntis Rutiņš and Klāvs Mikeļšteins a summer scholarship for a trip to the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia.

Resolution No. 12
The ALA Board adopts changes to the 2013 budget, providing for $985,335 in expenses and $798,513 in income.
