ALA 74th Congress in Minneapolis

We invite you to register for the American Latvian Association’s 74th Congress or to designate a delegate who will represent your organization!
This year’s Congress will take place: October 9–12, in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Main events and discussions in the Congress program:

  • The 500th anniversary of the Latvian book
  • Latvian history over a thousand years – the story of the traveling exhibition of the Latvian Museum, its significance and creation
  • The advantages, responsibilities, and priorities of citizenship and diaspora laws
  • The importance of journalism and its challenges in the modern age
  • The daily needs and priorities of Latvian community centers

Special guests:

  • Elita Kuzma, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the United States
  • Maija Bilsēna, Advisor to the Diaspora Group of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia
  • Dagnija Baltiņa, Director of the National Library of Latvia
  • Miks Muižarājs, Co-founder of the remigration association “Ar pasaules pieredzi Latvijā” (With Global Experience in Latvia)
  • Ina Strazdiņa, Permanent Correspondent in the U.S. for Latvian Public Media

Other guests will be announced closer to the event.

Cultural program:

Friday, October 10 – Concert at the Minneapolis Latvian Church Parish Hall featuring Jānis Šipkēvics’ musical project Shipsea

Saturday, October 11 – Ball at the hotel with the local ensemble “Lini un draugi” (Linen and Friends), playing polkas, waltzes, folk songs, foxtrots, and at least one tango! Contemporary Latvian pop songs and traditional folk dances will also be included.
