ALA 72. kongress – par aktīvu sadarbību un drošu nākotni

No 12. līdz 15. oktobrim Amerikas latviešu apvienība (ALA) rīkoja savu gadskārtējo kongresu. Kongress ir nozīmīgs notikums ASV latviešu kopienu dzīvē, pulcējot kopā ALA biedrorganizāciju delegātus, atsevišķos biedrus, sadarbības organizāciju pārstāvjus un citus viesus, lai diskutētu par svarīgiem jautājumiem, un virzītu kopienu savstarpēju sadarbību, kā arī turpinātu dialogu ar ALA valdi. Kongresā dalībniekiem ne tikai bija iespēja izteikt savas idejas un viedokļus, bet arī uzklausīt iedvesmojošas runas, kaut ko jaunu iemācīties, satikt paziņas un draugus, kā arī vairāk uzzināt par vietējo pilsētu Karmelu un tās apkārtnē dzīvojošiem latviešiem. ALA valde aktīvi sadarbojās ar Indianapoles latviešu kopienu, kura šogad bija uzņēmusies kongresa rīcības komitejas lomu. Esam ļoti pateicīgi par izcilo uzņemšanu un atbalstu! Aicinām ļaudis atbalstīt un apciemot Indianapoles latviešu pasākumus! Indianapoles latvieši ir aktīvi ļaudis! Pateicamies arī visām latviešu organizācijām par piedalīšanos un atbalstu! Veiksmi darbā! Kā jau katru gadu kongresa delegāti ievēlēja jaunu valdi un pieņēma 26 rezolūcijas nākamajam darba gadam. Ar pieņemtajām kongresa rezolūcijām varat iepazīties ALA mājaslapā šeit, savukārt ar jauno valdi varat iepazīties šeit.

ALA valdes pārstāvji piedalās PBLA gadskārtēja valdes sēdē Rīgā

Pasaules brīvo latviešu apvienības (PBLA) gadskārtējā valdes sēde šogad notika rudenī – no 25. līdz 30. septembrim Rīgā. Sēdes ietvaros tika rīkots izbraukums uz Latgali, apskatīta un novērtēta Latvijas un Baltkrievijas robežlīnija, rīkots seminārs, kurā bija trīs daļas - “Cīņa ar korupciju Latvijā – privātā sektora perspektīva”, “Diaspora – (ne)atņemama Latvijas informatīvās telpas daļa?” un diskusija par diasporas lomu “X stundā”, kurā tika spriests, ko Latvija atbilstoši valsts aizsardzības plānam sagaida no diasporas un tās organizācijām krīzes apstākļos, ja tāda stunda Latvijā iestātos. Visu trīs semināru video ierakstu varat noklausīties Latviesi.com Facebook lapā. Valdes sēdē tika pārrunāti dažādi svarīgi jautājumi un rezultātā tika pieņemtas 17 rezolūcijas. ALA priekšsēdis pārstāv ALA viedokli diskusijā par diasporas mediju nozīmīgumu

28. septembrī Latviesi.com sadarbībā ar Pasaules brīvo latviešu apvienību (PBLA) Rīgā rīkoja diskusiju “Diaspora – (ne)atņemama Latvijas informatīvās telpas daļa?”. Tajā piedalījās ALA priekšsēdis Mārtiņš Andersons, PBLA izpilddirektors un bijušais ALA ilggadējais ģenerālsekretārs Raits Eglītis, LU asociētā profesore un vadošā pētniece Baiba Bela, Delfi.lv redaktors Filips Lastovskis, un LSM.LV redaktore Marta Cerava. M. Andersons pastāstīja par to kā ALA informē savus biedrus un biedrorganizacijas par jaunākajiem ALA notikumiem, pieminot arī to, ka ALA ir sākusi ieviest jaunas pieejas informācijas izplatīšanai: “Mēs esam pēdējā laikā sarīkojuši gan vebinārus, gan citus pasākumus, kur mēs esam mēģinājuši tiešā veidā uzrunāt mūsu biedrus un biedru organizācijas, jo mēs esam sapratuši, ka mūsdienās mūs visus bombardē tik daudz informācijas gan e-pastos, gan citos kanālos, ka, ja tiešām gribam sasniegt mūsu biedrus un arī uzzināt, kas viņiem aktuāls, kas viņiem rūp, tad viņi ir jāuzrunā pa tiešo.” Pilnu diskusijas ierakstu variet noklausīties Latviesi.com Facebook lapā, saīsinātu rakstu varat izlasīt šeit.

ALA pārstāvji piedalās Diasporas konsultatīvās padomes šī gada trešajā sēdē

29. septembrī Diasporas konsultatīvā padome konceptuāli atbalstīja Plāna darbam ar diasporu 2024.-2026. gadam projektu tālākai virzīšanai apstiprināšanai Ministru kabinetā. Speciālo uzdevumu vēstniece diasporas jautājumos Elita Gavele Diasporas konsultatīvās padomes sēdē ziņoja par plāna projektu, kurā ir iekļauts pasākumu kopums, lai rastu efektīvus mehānismus diasporai būtisko jautājumu risināšanai, kā arī reemigrācijas sekmēšanai nākamajos trijos gados. Nākamā Diasporas konsultatīvās padomes sēde notiks 2023. gada 1. decembrī attālināti.

ALA priekšsēdis intervijā atgādina latviešu organizāciju ārpus Latvijas nozīmīgumu un jēgu

“Šābrīža svarīgākais uzdevums – ne tikai ALA, arī PBLA un citām – ir populārizēt diasporas organizāciju jēgu un nozīmi, kāpēc tās radušās un veidojušās, kāda ir to nākotne. Protams, jāstāsta arī par to vēsturi, par personālijām. Un jādomā, kā motivēt jauno paaudzi iesaistīties to darbā. Šobrīd notiek paaudžu maiņa, zemju organizācijās ienāk jaunas sejas, jaunas “asinis”, no kuŗām liela daļa ir tā sauktā jaunā diaspora. Viņiem varbūt nav tik daudz zināšanu, nav zināma vēsture, tas, ko vēsturiskās organizācijas ir darījušas gadu desmitos. ALA Labdarība Latvijā nozare – ja tev dots, tev jādod tālāk

Amerikā dzīvojošie latvieši jau gandrīz 30 gadus sniedz finansiālu atbalstu maznodrošinātām ģimenēm, studentiem, slimiem bērniem un bāreņiem. Līdz šim kopumā ziedoti teju 5 miljoni dolāru. Arī pirmdien, 25. septembrī, īpašā ceremonijā tika pasniegtas stipendijas studentiem un daudzbērnu ģimenēm. Amerikas latviešu piešķirtās stipendijas ir praktisks atbalsts, kas daudziem jauniešiem palīdzējis nepadoties, izķepuroties un nostāties uz kājām. Fonda līdzekļus veido brīvprātīgi Amerikas latviešu ziedojumi. "Mums ir liela cilvēku atsaucība, viņiem rūp Latvijas nākotne," atzina Amerikas Latviešu apvienības labdarības nozares vadītāja Diāna Kārkliņš. Latviešu kopienas ASV arvien vairāk iesaistās Latvijas ekonomikas veicināšanā - Bostonā notiek ceturtā Latvijas biznesa konference “Spotlight Latvia”

22. septembrī notika kārtējā, šogad jau ceturtā Latvijas biznesa konference ASV “Spotlight Latvia”, ko rīko Latvijas-Amerikas tirdzniecības kamera (LATK), sadarbībā ar Amerikas latviešu apvienību (ALA), Pasaules brīvo latviešu apvienību (PBLA), Latvijas Ārlietu ministriju, Latvijas Investīciju un Attīstības aģentūru (LIAA), kā arī daudziem ASV un Latvijas uzņēmumiem un privātā biznesa pārstāvjiem. Mēs varam izdarīt lielas lietas, kad sanākam kopā – tāds bija konferences dalībnieku kopējais vērtējums. ALA aicina ASV latviešu organizācijas aizpildīt LU diasporas un migrācijas pētījuma centra aptauju

Par diasporu šobrīd runājam kā par Latvijas piekto novadu, kas iedzīvotāju skaita ziņā atpaliek tikai no Rīgas un Pierīgas. Diaspora ir tik daudzveidīga, kā nekad agrāk – dažādas paaudzes, atšķirīgi izceļošanas iemesli, dažādas latviešu valodas zināšanas, daudzās mītnes zemēs latviešu dzīvesvietas un pulcēšanās vietas šķir lieli attālumi, bet pieaugoša dzīves dārdzība visur pasaulē ierobežo līdzekļus, ko var veltīt “latviešu lietām”. Kā diasporas organizācijas un neformālās grupas darbojas šajos apstākļos? Ar kādiem izaicinājumiem katrā pasaules reģionā un savās mītnes zemēs tās saskaras? Lai gūtu atbildes uz šiem jautājumiem, Latvijas Universitātes Diasporas un migrācijas pētījumu centrs sadarbībā ar Ārlietu Ministriju veic pētījumu ar mērķi apzināt diasporas organizācijas un neformālās domu biedru grupas un gūt dziļāku ieskatu to ikdienas darbībā, noskaidrot, kādi ir to resursi un vajadzības, ar kādām grūtībām tās saskaras un kāds ir to nākotnes redzējums.

Latvijas Universitātes Diasporas un migrācijas pētījumu centrs līdz 5. novembrim aicina piedalīties aptaujā gan lielas, gan mazas organizācijas, gan formāli reģistrētas organizācijas, gan pavisam neformālas domu biedru grupas: https://aptauja.migracija.lv/diasporas-organizacijas. Bieži vienā latviešu centrā, biedrībā vai apvienībā darbojas dažādas mazākas un samērā neatkarīgas dalīborganizācijas – nedēļas nogales skola, koris, folkloras kopa vai novusa klubs. Aicinām aptaujas anketu aizpildīt kā katras atsevišķās organizācijas vadību, tā arī tās dalīborganizāciju vadītājus! Aicinām piedalīties arī pavisam neformālu domu biedru grupas – arī tādas, kas pastāv tikai virtuāli sociālo tīklu portālos. Mazajām un neformālajām grupām lūdzam līderi vai grupas moderatoru aizpildīt aptaujas anketu! Jūs katrs esat svarīgs – katru sabiedrību, arī katru kopienu ārpus Latvijas veido atsevišķi cilvēki un to kopīgā darbošanās! Tikai kopā mēs esam spēks! PBLA publicē digitālo arhīvu “Latviešu arhīvi pasaulē”

Turpinot ar Kultūras ministrijas atbalstu 2021. gadā sākto projektu “Latviešu arhīvi pasaulē”, Pasaules brīvo latviešu apvienība ar prieku ziņo, ka 20. septembrī ir publicēts digitālais arhīvs, kas projekta mājaslapā https://arhivi.pbla.lv/ ir skatāms sadaļā “Materiāli”. Digitālajā arhīvā “Latviešu arhīvi pasaulē” vienkopus pieejami digitālie un digitalizētie arhīvu materiāli, kurus glabā latviešu kopienas visā pasaulē. Šis digitālais arhīvs ir īpašs ar to, ka tā saturu veido latviešu kopienu pārstāvji, patstāvīgi apstrādājot un digitalizējot arhīvu materiālus, izmantojot PBLA sagatavotās vadlīnijas. Pasaules diktātu latviešu valodā rakstījuši vairāk nekā 1500 dalībnieki

Dienu pirms 15. oktobra Valsts valodas dienas atzīmēšanas, 14. oktobrī, devīto pasaules diktātu rakstījuši 1500 interesenti no 17 valstīm, no tiem 1024 dalībnieki diktātu rakstīja klātienē, bet aptuveni 490 izmantoja iespēju rakstīt tiešsaistē. Precīzs datu apkopojums tiks publicēts tuvāko mēnešu laikā, kad būs izlaboti visi iesniegtie darbi. Salīdzinot dalībnieku skaitu ar pagājušo gadu, secināms, ka pieaudzis klātienes rakstītāju skaits, taču tiešsaistes rakstītāju skaits bijis mazāks nekā pērn. Iespējams attālināto rakstītāju skaita samazinājums skaidrojams ar to, ka sabiedrisko mediju portālā LSM.lv tiešraides laikā bija novērojami darbības traucējumi, tādēļ attālinātai rakstīšanai bija jāizmanto Latvijas Radio vai Latvijas Televīzijas tiešraide. Bijusī ALA valdes priekšsēde Anita Bataraga šoreiz no tālienes turpina veicināt ALA un Ņujorkas latviešu sabiedrības redzamību. Kamēr ALA valde, delegāti un viesi tikās ALA kongresā, Anita strādāja no savām mājām un Latvijas Radio 2 intervijā pastāstīja gan par to kā Ņujorkas latviešu kopiena rīko talku Katskiļu nometnē un ko šī vieta nozīmē latviešiem, gan arī īsumā informēja par ALA vispārējo darbību. ALA 72nd Congress - Interactive Collaboration and Planning for the Future

From October 12 to 15, the American Latvian Association (ALA) held its annual congress. The congress is a significant event in the life of the Latvian community in the U.S. and brings together delegates from ALA member organizations, individual members, representatives of partner organizations and other guests to discuss important issues, promote mutual cooperation between different communities, as well as to continue the dialogue with the ALA board. At the congress, the participants not only had the opportunity to express their ideas and opinions, but also to listen to inspiring speeches, learn something new, meet acquaintances and friends, as well as to learn more about the local town of Carmel and the Latvians living in its vicinity. The ALA board actively cooperated with the Latvian community of Indianapolis, which this year had taken on the role of the local organizing committee of the congress. We are very grateful for the excellent reception and support! We invite people to support and visit Latvian events in Indianapolis! Indianapolis Latvians are very active! We also thank all Latvian organizations for their participation and support! Like every year, the congress delegates elected a new board and adopted 26 resolutions for the next operating year. ALA Board Members Represent U.S. Latvians in the WFFL/PBLA Meeting in Riga

The annual board meeting of the World Federation of Free Latvians (WFFL/PBLA) was held this year in autumn - from September 25 to 30 in Riga. As part of the meeting, a trip to Latgale was organized, the border line between Latvia and Belarus was visited and evaluated, and a seminar with three parts was held - "The fight against corruption in Latvia - the perspective of the private sector", "Diaspora - an (in)alienable part of Latvia's information space?" and a discussion about the role of the diaspora in the "X hour". During this seminar it was discussed what Latvia expects from the diaspora and its organizations in a crisis, in accordance with the national defense plan, if such an event were to occur in Latvia. Various important issues were discussed at the board meeting and 17 resolutions were adopted as a result. There are 4 ALA representatives on the PBLA board - Mārtiņš Andersons, Diāna Kārkliņa, Elisa Freimane and Valda Grinberga. On September 28, Latviesi.com in cooperation with the World Federation of Free Latvians (WFFL/PBLA) held a discussion in Riga "Diaspora - an (in)alienable part of Latvian information space?". ALA president Mārtiņš Andersons, PBLA executive director and former ALA long-time executive director Raits Eglītis, LU associate professor and leading researcher Baiba Bela, Delfi.lv editor Filips Lastovskis, and LSM.LV editor Marta Cerava also participated. M. Andersons spoke about how ALA informs its members and member organizations about the latest ALA events and projects, mentioning also that ALA has started to introduce new approaches to information dissemination: "We have recently held both webinars and other events where we have tried to address our members and member organizations more directly, because we know that nowadays we are all bombarded with so much information, both in e-mails and in other channels, and that if we really want to reach our members and find out what is relevant to them, then they need to be addressed directly." ALA Representatives Participate in the 3rd Meeting of the Diaspora Advisory Council This Year

On September 29, the Diaspora Advisory Council conceptually supported the Plan for Work with the Diaspora for 2024-2026, which will be forwarded for the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers. Elita Gavele, Ambassador for Diaspora Affairs, reported on the draft plan at the meeting of the Diaspora Advisory Council. The plan includes a set of measures to find effective mechanisms for solving important issues for the diaspora, as well as for promoting re-emigration in the next three years. Elisa Freimane, ALA Director of Education, works in the education and language working group of the Diaspora Advisory Council. The next meeting of the Diaspora Advisory Council will be held remotely on December 1, 2023.

Interview: ALA President Speaks about Importance of Latvian Organizations in the Diaspora

"The most important task at the moment - not only for ALA, but also for WFFL/PBLA and others - is to popularize the meaning and importance of diaspora organizations, why they were born and formed, what is their future. Of course, we must also tell about their history, about their personalities. And we need to think about how to motivate the younger generation to get involved in their work. At the moment, a change of generations is taking place, new faces, new "blood" are entering the country's organizations, a large part of which is the so-called new diaspora. They may not know as much of the history, what the historical organizations have been doing for decades. I would say that the meaning of ALA and PBLA needs to be 're-sold'. ALA Support & Aid to Latvia - Pay it Forward

Latvians living in the U.S. have been providing financial support to low-income families, students, sick children and orphans for almost 30 years. So far, a total of almost 5 million dollars have been donated. Also this year - on September 25- in a special ceremony, scholarships were awarded to students and large families. The scholarships awarded by Latvians in the U.S. are practical support that has helped many young people not to give up and to get back on their feet. Funds are made up of voluntary donations from American Latvians. "We have had a great response from people, they care about the future of Latvia," admitted Diāna Kārkliņš, head of the ALA Support & Aid to Latvia office. Donations to these Latvian children and families come from multiple American Latvian families, as well as through bequests. Latvians in the U.S. Increasingly Involved in Promoting Latvia's Economy - 4th Business Conference "Spotlight Latvia" Held in Boston

On September 22, the fourth Latvian business conference "Spotlight Latvia" was held in Boston. It was organized by the Latvian-American Chamber of Commerce (LATK), in cooperation with the American Latvian Association (ALA), the World Federation of Free Latvians (PBLA/WFFL), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA), as well as many US and Latvian companies and private business representatives. We can do great things when we come together - that was the overall assessment of the conference participants. ALA invites Latvian Organizations in the U.S. to Answer Survey of the LU Diaspora and Migration Research Center

The diaspora is now being talked about as the fifth county of Latvia, which is behind only Riga and Pieriga in terms of population. The diaspora is as diverse as never before - different generations, different reasons for emigration, different knowledge of the Latvian language, in many host countries Latvian residences and gathering places are separated by long distances, but the increasing cost of living everywhere in the world limits the funds that can be devoted to "Latvian affairs". How do diaspora organizations and informal groups function in these circumstances? What challenges do they face in each region of the world and in their home countries? In order to obtain answers to these questions, the Center for Diaspora and Migration Studies of the University of Latvia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is conducting a study with the aim of identifying diaspora organizations and informal groups of like-minded people and gaining a deeper insight into their daily activities, finding out what their resources and needs are, what difficulties they face they face and what is their future vision.

PBLA Publishes Digital Archive "Latvian Archives in the World"

Continuing the "Latvian Archives in the World" project started in 2021 with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the World Federation of Free Latvians is pleased to announce that on September 20 the digital archive was published and can be viewed on the project website https://arhivi.pbla.lv/ in the section “Materiāli”. In the digital archive "Latvian Archives in the World" digital and digitized archival materials stored by Latvian communities all over the world are available together all in one place. This digital archive is special in that its content is created by representatives of Latvian communities, independently processing and digitizing archive materials using the guidelines prepared by PBLA/WFFL. More than 1,500 Participants Participated in the World Dictation in Latvian

A day before the National Language Day on October 15, on October 14, the ninth World Dictation in Latvian was written by 1,500 participants from 17 countries, of which 1,024 participants wrote the dictation in person, while approximately 490 took the opportunity to write online. An accurate compilation of data will be published in the coming months when all submitted works have been corrected. Comparing the number of participants with last year, it can be concluded that the number of in-person writers increased, but the number of online writers was less than last year. The possible decrease in the number of remote writers can be explained by the fact that during the live broadcast on the public media portal LSM.lv there were operational disturbances, so for remote writing it was necessary to use the live broadcast of Latvian Radio or Latvian Television. Former ALA President Anita Bataraga - "ALA Connects all Latvians in America"

The former president of the board of ALA, Anita Bataraga, this time from afar continues to promote the visibility of ALA and New York's Latvian society. While the ALA board, delegates and guests met at the ALA congress, Anita worked from home and told Latvian Radio 2 in an interview about how the New York Latvian community cleans up the Katskiļi camp and what this place means to Latvians, as well as briefly explained about the general activities of the ALA.
