{"id":10591,"date":"2026-09-21T02:36:48","date_gmt":"2026-09-21T02:36:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alausa.org\/?post_type=news&#038;p=10591"},"modified":"2026-09-25T02:51:06","modified_gmt":"2026-09-25T02:51:06","slug":"exercise-your-right-to-vote-in-the-15th-saeima-election","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/alausa.org\/en\/aktualitates\/exercise-your-right-to-vote-in-the-15th-saeima-election\/","title":{"rendered":"Exercise Your Right to Vote in the 15th Saeima Election!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The 15th Saeima election will take place on Saturday, October 3.<\/strong> Latvian citizens who live in or are in the United States at the time of the election have the opportunity to participate and help shape Latvia\u2019s future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are a Latvian citizen and will be at least 18 years old on Election Day, we encourage you to exercise your right to vote!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\uddf1\ud83c\uddfb Vote in Person<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On <strong>October 3, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time<\/strong>, you can vote at any Latvian polling station abroad. No advance registration is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bring a <strong>valid Latvian passport or eID card<\/strong>. Latvian citizens living abroad may vote at any polling station abroad, regardless of where they live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There will be <strong>16 polling stations in the United States<\/strong> this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/jabalso.lv\/kur-balsot\/\">Find a polling station<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2709\ufe0f Vote by Mail<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you cannot get to a polling station on October 3, Latvian citizens abroad can also vote by mail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Important \u2013 the deadline to register for postal voting is September 25!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Registration takes place electronically through Latvija.gov.lv using the <strong>\u201cV\u0113l\u0113t\u0101ja datu p\u0101rvald\u012bba\u201d (Voter Data Management)<\/strong> e-service. A valid eID card and an electronic identification method are required to register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After registering, voters select the postal voting polling station to which they will send their ballot (<strong>Washington, D.C., or Riga<\/strong>). <strong>Your ballot must arrive at the selected postal voting polling station no later than October 3.<\/strong> The Central Election Commission (CVK) therefore recommends mailing your ballot well in advance, taking international mail delivery times into account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/latvija.gov.lv\/Services\/68511\">Register for postal voting<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udcda Learn More Before the Election<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The choice of whom to vote for is up to each individual voter. Before the election, we encourage you to review the parties\u2019 platforms and candidates\u2019 positions so that you can make an informed choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The website <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/jabalso.lv\/\">J\u0101balso.lv<\/a><\/strong> provides practical information for Latvian voters abroad, including information about the election, voting from abroad, and other useful resources.
