Board Resolutions<\/h3>\n

Resolution Nr. 1<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/span>The<\/span> ALA <\/span>Board<\/span> resolves<\/span> to <\/span>allocate<\/span> the<\/span> funds<\/span> of<\/span> Aina <\/span>Galeja<\/span> Dravniece\u2019s<\/span> bequest<\/span> in<\/span> accordance<\/span> with<\/span> her<\/span> final<\/span> wishes<\/span> and<\/span> with<\/span> the<\/span> provisions<\/span> in<\/span> Resolution<\/span> Nr. 4 <\/span>from<\/span> December<\/span> 2013<\/span>; <\/span>this<\/span> will<\/span> be<\/span> confirmed<\/span> in<\/span> a <\/span>Memorandum<\/span> of<\/span> Understanding<\/span> with<\/span> the<\/span> executor<\/span>.<\/span> ALA <\/span>will<\/span> charge<\/span> the<\/span> applicable<\/span> administrative<\/span> fee<\/span> on<\/span> the<\/span> entire<\/span> sum <\/span>and<\/span> distribute<\/span> the<\/span> remaining<\/span> amount<\/span> according<\/span> to <\/span>the<\/span> donor\u2019s<\/span> final<\/span>, <\/span>handwritten<\/span> specifications<\/span>, <\/span>retaining<\/span> the<\/span> 5% <\/span>due<\/span> to ALA <\/span>in<\/span> the<\/span> unrestricted<\/span> General<\/span> Fund<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Resolution<\/span> Nr. 2<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/span>The<\/span> ALA <\/span>Board<\/span> has<\/span> reviewed<\/span> and<\/span> accepts<\/span> the<\/span> Fiscal<\/span> Reports<\/span> as<\/span> presented<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Resolution<\/span> Nr. 3<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/span>The<\/span> ALA <\/span>Board<\/span> accepts<\/span> the<\/span> 2014 ALA <\/span>budget<\/span> proposal<\/span>. <\/span>The<\/span> budget<\/span> projects<\/span> a <\/span>Total<\/span> Income<\/span> of<\/span> $1,<\/span>486,088<\/span> and<\/span> Total<\/span> Expense<\/span> of<\/span> $<\/span>1,185,830<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Resolution<\/span> Nr. 4<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/span>Consistent<\/span> with<\/span> donor <\/span>restrictions<\/span>, <\/span>the<\/span> ALA <\/span>B<\/span>oard<\/span> resolves<\/span> to <\/span>transfer<\/span> assets<\/span> from<\/span> the<\/span> Temporarily<\/span> Restricted<\/span> Fund<\/span> C\u012bru\u013ca <\/span>account<\/span> to <\/span>the<\/span> ALA <\/span>General<\/span> Fund<\/span> in<\/span> the<\/span> amount<\/span> of<\/span> deficit<\/span> funding<\/span> for<\/span> Tours<\/span> for<\/span> FY2013. <\/span>The<\/span> transaction<\/span> will<\/span> be<\/span> a 2013 <\/span>expense<\/span> and<\/span> the<\/span> exact<\/span> amount<\/span> will<\/span> be<\/span> based<\/span> on<\/span> the<\/span> audited<\/span> expense<\/span> deficit<\/span> for<\/span> FY2013.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Resolution<\/span> Nr. 5<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/span>The<\/span> ALA <\/span>Board<\/span> resolves<\/span> to <\/span>eliminate<\/span> Account<\/span> 24000 \u2013 <\/span>Advance<\/span> Latvian<\/span> Books<\/span>, <\/span>if<\/span> to do <\/span>so<\/span> is<\/span> consistent<\/span> with<\/span> accounting<\/span> practices<\/span>. <\/span>The<\/span> Board<\/span> acknowledges<\/span> that<\/span> there<\/span> are<\/span> no <\/span>written<\/span> or<\/span> known<\/span> records<\/span> available<\/span> as<\/span> to donors <\/span>for<\/span> the<\/span> \u201e<\/span>Latvian<\/span> Books<\/span>\u201d <\/span>and<\/span> there<\/span> is<\/span> no <\/span>available<\/span> written<\/span> record<\/span> as<\/span> to <\/span>specifics<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> intended<\/span> project<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Resolution<\/span> Nr. 6<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/span>The<\/span> ALA <\/span>Board<\/span> accepts<\/span> the<\/span> Board<\/span> Designated<\/span> Realignment<\/span> dated<\/span> March<\/span> 2014<\/span> (<\/span>attached<\/span>)<\/span>. <\/span>Discussions<\/span> and<\/span> a <\/span>resolution<\/span> on<\/span> funding<\/span> the<\/span> Board<\/span> Designated<\/span> accounts<\/span> will<\/span> follow<\/span> after<\/span> the<\/span> ALA <\/span>Congress<\/span> in<\/span> May<\/span> 2014<\/span>,<\/span> and<\/span> after<\/span> the<\/span> legalities<\/span> of<\/span> Century<\/span> Bequest<\/span> Fund<\/span> use<\/span> are<\/span> clarified<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Resolution<\/span> Nr. 7<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/span>The<\/span> ALA <\/span>Board<\/span> accepts<\/span> the<\/span> Cost<\/span> Allocation<\/span> methodology<\/span> dated<\/span> March<\/span> 2014<\/span> (<\/span>attached<\/span>)<\/span>, <\/span>and<\/span> will<\/span> review<\/span> the<\/span> methodology<\/span> annually<\/span> at<\/span> the<\/span> September<\/span> board<\/span> meeting<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Resolution<\/span> Nr. 8<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span>The<\/span> AL<\/span>A <\/span>Board<\/span> resolves<\/span> to <\/span>compensate<\/span> any<\/span> Latvian<\/span> community<\/span> center<\/span> that<\/span> hosts<\/span> a <\/span>board<\/span> meeting<\/span> for<\/span> miscellaneous<\/span> expenses<\/span> (<\/span>verified<\/span> by<\/span> receipts<\/span>)<\/span>, <\/span>a<\/span>nd<\/span> to <\/span>additionally<\/span> donate<\/span> at<\/span> least<\/span> $1000 to <\/span>support<\/span> the<\/span> center<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Resolution<\/span> Nr. <\/span>9<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span>The<\/span> ALA <\/span>Board<\/span> resolves<\/span> to <\/span>hold<\/span> the<\/span> next<\/span> board<\/span> meeting<\/span> on<\/span> Thursday<\/span>, <\/span>May<\/span> 1st, <\/span>before<\/span> the<\/span> 63rd ALA <\/span>Congress<\/span> in<\/span> Philadelphia<\/span>, <\/span>and<\/span> the<\/span> first <\/span>board<\/span> meeting<\/span> for<\/span> the<\/span> newly<\/span> elected<\/span> Board<\/span> on<\/span> Sunday<\/span>, <\/span>May<\/span> 4th, <\/span>after<\/span> the<\/span> Congress<\/span>.<\/span> (<\/span>There<\/span> will<\/span> be<\/span> no <\/span>board<\/span> meeting<\/span> in<\/span> June<\/span>.)<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span>The ALA Board accepts the following individual member delegates for the 63rd ALA Congress in Philadelphia: <\/span>Lilita<\/span> Bergs, <\/span>Ivars<\/span> B\u0113rzi\u0146\u0161<\/span>, <\/span>Vija<\/span> B\u0113rzi\u0146a-Zuntaka<\/span>, <\/span>Ints<\/span> Dzelzgalvis<\/span>, <\/span>Maija<\/span> Hinkle, <\/span>In\u0101ra<\/span> Kr\u016bmi\u0146a<\/span>, <\/span>J\u0101nis<\/span> Kukainis<\/span>, Roberts <\/span>Kukainis<\/span>, Juris <\/span>Me\u017einskis<\/span>, Anita <\/span>T\u0113rauda<\/span>, and <\/span>Ilona<\/span> Vilci\u0146a<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Resolution<\/span> Nr. <\/span>11<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span>The<\/span> ALA <\/span>Board<\/span> resolves<\/span> to <\/span>make<\/span> a <\/span>request<\/span> to <\/span>the<\/span> Latvian<\/span> government<\/span> (<\/span>in<\/span> the<\/span> form<\/span> of<\/span> a <\/span>letter<\/span>) <\/span>that<\/span> it <\/span>carefully<\/span> evaluate<\/span> the<\/span> information<\/span> that<\/span> is<\/span> presented<\/span> in<\/span> the<\/span> media<\/span>, <\/span>and<\/span> strive<\/span> to <\/span>support<\/span> news<\/span> channels<\/span> that<\/span> are<\/span> aligned<\/span> with<\/span> Latvian<\/span> interests<\/span> and<\/span> democratic<\/span> values<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Resolution Nr. 12<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/span>The ALA Board supports the candidacy of Marcus <\/span>Videnieks<\/span> as the new supplement to the ALA Information Office, the Director of External Information. This supplement to the Information Office has become necessary due to recent political events in Ukraine and a need to inform ALA members with political information <\/span>regarding<\/span> the national security of Latvia.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Resolution Nr. 13<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/span>The ALA Board resolves to support three American Latvian youth camps- in <\/span>Katski\u013ci<\/span>, <\/span>Ga\u0157ezers<\/span>, and <\/span>Me\u017eotne<\/span>– each with a $500 donation. The Board considers the support of American Latvian youth programs as especially important at this time, particularly because a significant American Latvian youth project, the 2×2 camp, will not be taking place this year as planned.
